Welcome to College Ready Mama: Real-Life College Prep Help for Moms

Hi friend — I’m Shannon Mayer, a veteran college mom and now an incoming freshman mom, and I’m so glad you’re here.

If you’re feeling overwhelmed, emotional, excited, and slightly terrified all at the same time… you are absolutely not alone.

When I sent my son off to college, I quickly realized how little practical, real-life advice existed for moms. I learned through trial and error, late-night Googling, advice from other moms, and a whole lot of “I wish someone had told me this sooner” moments.

So I created this space to walk beside you — not as an expert with fancy credentials — but as a mom who has been there and is doing it again.

Why You Can Trust My Advice

It’s been a long time since I attended a small women’s college in Georgia (where I majored in Theatre of all things), but for the last 25 years, my husband and I have owned and operated a local children’s theatre.
We’ve mentored thousands of kids and had a front-row seat to hundreds of families preparing for college. We’ve celebrated the wins, supported the hard moments, and learned so much from watching other moms walk this same path.

Now I want to pass that knowledge on to you.

Our Family’s College Journey

We currently have:

  • 🎓 A college junior at Coastal Carolina University studying Theatre
  • 🎓 A high school senior heading to Rollins College in Winter Park, Florida this fall, majoring in Business Management

Helping kids — whether they’re my own or someone else’s — grow into confident adults has been one of the greatest joys of my life. And now, I want to help you launch yours too.

This Is a Judgment-Free Zone

You won’t find perfection here.

I am not the most organized person in the world — trust me — but I have learned that a little planning goes a very long way.

Together we’ll focus on:

Because when you prepare early, you avoid scrambling later.

  • Simple systems
  • Realistic prep
  • Practical checklists
  • Peace of mind
  • Less chaos
  • Fewer last-minute meltdowns

Because when you prepare early, you avoid scrambling later.

You’re Not Alone In This

I won’t promise perfection.

I will promise honesty, encouragement, practical advice, and a little humor along the way.

We’ll laugh about the mistakes.

We’ll cry when drop-off day comes.

And we’ll be proud of ourselves for raising strong, independent young adults.

So grab a cup of coffee, take a deep breath, and stay awhile.

You’ve got this, mama. And I’m right here with you 💗
